Amanda Liscumb has won the Community Service Award presented by the Kiwanis Club of Rideau. Amanda is a graduate of Fisher Park P.S. and the following is her letter which won her the award.

"Hi, my name is Amanda Liscumb. I am 14 years old and my birthday is April 22. I attend Fisher Park Public School. I am in Grade eight.
I have been volunteering all my life but just in the past two years, it's been the most rewarding work I have done.
For the past two years I have hosted two Chinese students from China and I hosted them each for two months. These students became part of my family. The experience was beneficial for both the students and I. The students learnt more English, what it's like living in Canada and our school system. For me, I learnt a bit of Chinese, how their lives are back in China, and a bit about their culture. I also made more friends from China. It is a very fulfiling, unforgettable, enjoyable learning experience.
Also at this year's science fair there was a bake sale. At that bake sale I helped set up the tables and the snacks. I helped raise money for the school.
I like helping Ms. Gardener, our school guidance councilor. I help her sort out our highschool registration forms. I also helped her with the preparation for the arrival of the Chineses students.
Outside the school, I helped out with our neighborhood street party, and helped friends with their homework."
AMANDA'S THANK YOU NOTE.
"I would like to take the time to say thank you to the Kiwanis Club and especially to Mr. George Old, for recognizing my contribution to the community and for giving me this award.
I will cherish this award very much.
I will continue to volunteer through out my life, so thanks again for the award.
Thank you."
